Getting Warmed up in the Opening Plenary Session

The Wednesday at Voluntaria started with a plenary session. The aim of the first plenary was to give the participants an introduction to Voluntaria. The participants where guided thorough the programme by the plenary leaders who explained different types of workshops and layers of fun. Furthermore, a short history of Voluntaria was presented and how the event actually came to life. The main theme, 21st Century Intercultural Challenges was explained by the project coordinator Brian Jurzik-Arnold. Furthermore, the participants were asked upon their arrival what intercultural challenges are and the video with the answers was shown in the plenary.

YFU Sharing

The plenary session was followed by a sharing session which was constructed to help everyone to get a better understanding and overview of the countries represented and the diversity of YFU organisations. All of the organisations represented at Voluntaria were asked to prepare a presentation answering few questions.
The interesting outcome of this session was that even though the organisations are very different in size and age, they still face many of the same issues such as recruiting host families, students and managing volunteers.

Workshops and Olympics

The afternoon was filled with different workshops such as Intercultural Communication Techniques, internships in YFU and fundraising. Between all the educational content there was time for bonding by the pool, playing the Voluntaria Olympics and reflecting on the day. When the day turned to night there was a bowling session and game time in the bar. With a exited group of participants, nice weather and a dedicated team we canĀ“t wait to see what tomorrow will bring!
