It is the second day at the Changemakers Academy and things are starting to get serious!
The second day started with an Identity and Cultural Diversity session, where Cihan showed everyone how important it is to raise questions when you don’t understand something and to speak up when you don’t agree with something.
Through an exercise, Take a Step Further, participants had the opportunity to analyse how many more opportunities and privileges some people have in comparison with others just by the fact they are born into a certain family. This exercise helped participants develop more empathy and understanding for other people in need and remember why it is important to fight for Human Rights.
After a well deserved Siesta, the Conflict Resolution session came, where the participants learned about the steps they should follow in case of a conflict, and brainstormed about causes of conflict and ways to deal with it. They also got a chance to practice dealing with conflicts in an interactive and highly engaging exercise.
The final session explored the Global Mission of YFU: YFU advances intercultural understanding, mutual respect, and social responsibility through educational exchanges for youth, families and communities. The participants also analysed the six YFU Values: Promoting quality, transparency & sustainability, Learning for Life, Caring: Personal and People Oriented, Valuing diversity: Inclusive and Fair, Volunteering: Engaged and Dedicated, Cooperating in International Solidarity. They discussed the ways in which these values are connected with Global Citizenship and how they could be better implemented.
The day ended with Teach Me! Evening, where participants shared their skills with the other. There was a Spanish class, lessons of Juggling & Acrobatics, Hair Braiding & Head Massage and Photography.
This activity was made possible thanks to the funding of the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe.
