YES 2017: Call for Freestylers

Your role in one sentence

Freestylers are the working bees of the YES. They fly around and make sure all the daily events and routines go as planned. The Freestylers are crucial to running the logistic tasks of an event with more than 600 people smoothly.

We expect from you

To be up for hard work and long shifts, be a team player, and be there for the students when they need you. We need you to be flexible and to jump in when help is needed.

You can expect from us

We promise you will be part of a strong team working in a fun atmosphere. You will get to bound together with some great people.

YES 2017

The Young Europeans’ Seminar (YES) aims to contribute to the development of young global citizens through learning and volunteering together in a spirit of international friendship.
The Young Europeans’ Seminar is a yearly massive intercultural get-together for over 500 European exchange students at the end of their school year, all put together by a team of over 100 YFU volunteers. The YES is a unique opportunity to reunite with old friends from all over Europe and make new ones, creating a bridge between the exchange year and the return home. It’s a fun learning experience where students explore what it means to be a citizen of the world through diverse interactive learning activities. The international team of volunteers creates a unique spirit and an amazingly motivational experience for everyone at the YES.
“Think free. Act free. Be free!” is the topic of the YES 2017. This year we will focus on different aspects of freedom, such as but not limited to freedom of the press, speech, diversity, expression and assembly.
The YES 2017 aims to give participants the chance to explore and (re)discover the possibilities they are given by the freedoms they possess. It encourages the students to make use of their unique experiences and insights to enable positive change around the globe.
The YES 2017 will take place in Werbellinsee (Germany) from 26 to 30 June 2017. It is organised by EEE-YFU together with YFU Estonia and YFU Sweden, with the in-country support of YFU Germany.

What do you gain?

Participating at the YES as a volunteer is a truly rewarding experience. The seminar lasts for 4 days and there is so much you can gain:

  • Possibility to share your volunteer experience and get to know a lot of new people
  • Increasing skills in event planning and handling tricky logistics.
  • Experience of working with YFU on an international level
  • Passing on the YFU spirit
  • Opportunity to be a part of the biggest YFU event in Europe and have a great time

Your role

Freestylers have a wide range of tasks. Some set up the decorations and prepare the premises before the students arrive. Some help dismantle the site at the end. You might be responsible for the key desk, safety and security on the premises and night watches. Or you might assist with track session attendance and cafeteria checks.

You might help during the plenary sessions, free time activities, or in preparation of track sessions. One of the most fun activities is to support the YES Lounge team during peak hours by tending the bar.

Freestylers support the travel team on arrival and departure days. All these happen in shifts, so nobody works too much.

Your profile

If you wish to be a Freestyler at the YES 2017, you are:

  • responsible and reliable, and willing to work night shifts.
  • fluent in English (German is an advantage)
  • at least 20 year old
  • able to access your e-mail and communicate with the Freestylers’ team before the YES 2017
  • have a first aid or lifeguard certificate (not necessary, but an advantage)

If you are not a perfect match, but still think you could be right for this task, please don’t hesitate to apply. We believe in passion and attitude over skills.
