In 1962, YFU US received for the first time students from Switzerland and five years later YFU Switzerland was created. Most tasks are still performed by volunteers, almost all of whom have spent a year abroad. Studying in Switzerland
Switzerland has a decentralised education system with most decisions taken at cantonal level. High school is not compulsory but students with ages between 16 and 19 who wish to continue their education move into Secondary II which provides different emphasis on different major subjects. YFU Switzerland offers exchange programmes like math and science, modern languages, ancient languages, economics, art or sports. Situated in the heart of Europe, Switzerland is the perfect example of diverse cultures with different people, languages and religion co-existing together. Switzerland has four national languages that vary in number of speakers. German is the most spoken, followed by French, Italian and Rhaeto-Rumantsch. The various geography with heals, mountains and many lakes determine different temperatures throughout the year but the nature is so beautiful all seasons. The country has a population of around 8 million inhabitants living in a multilingual and cosmopolitan environment. They are hard working but of course they like relaxing. Leisure activities range from hiking to relaxing with family and friends.
